My Masters Design Thesis project this year was based in the European research unit EMUVE (Euro-Mediterranean Urban Voids Ecology), developed at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff and funded by the European Commission. This unit focuses on the scarred urban context of Euro-Mediterranean cities, left behind in the wake of the 2008 economic crisis and encourages new ways on thinking about urban reactivation through flexible, resilient and collaborative approaches.
Located within Barcelona’s post-industrial district of Poble Nou, this project addresses the issue through the examination of the pre-proposed 22@ Plan for the district that was put in place before the economic crash of 2008. The project adopts a multi-scalar approach: the urban scale of the district within the city, the axial scale of the Carrer de Pere IV and the architectural scale of Can Ricart, a post-industrial site of conflict within Poble Nou, to create innovate urban and architectural methodologies for change.
